From Pietermaritzburg: Take the R56 towards Richmond, bypassing Richmond village. Continue on the R56 for 11 kilometres after passing Richmond, then turn right onto the district road, D59 (marked Nyala Pans). Follow this district road for 14 kilometres and turn off on your left to Nyala Pans. Travel time is approximately 1hr | From Durban: Head north up the N3.Take the Umlaas Road off-ramp towards Thornville and Richmond. Turn left onto the Richmond road (R56) Continue on the R56, bypassing Richmond village. 11 kilometres after Richmond, turn onto district road D59 (marked Nyala Pans). Follow this district road for 14 kilometres and turn off on your left to Nyala Pans. Travel time is approximately 1hr30min. The last 14km on the D59 is on a decent gravelled district road. It is generally kept in good condition, but is prone to getting potholed in the wet season. It is easily passable in a standard passenger car, provided that one proceeds with appropriate caution, especially in the wet. |
